After a hiatus of nearly twenty years, I recently returned to collaging. I now mainly use papers I have textured and colored myself, but I also incorporate pieces of my old gouache and pastel paintings and intaglio prints.

During a Saturday workshop in San Francisco in 2006, I created the five 9"x12" Soul Cards shown above. Without reflection, we selected images that appealed to us from piles of magazine photos spread on the floor, then took them to a quiet corner and arranged them on construction paper until they somehow felt "right."
